New paper forthcoming in Ecography

Species distribution models can be important tools for conservation, but they can also be difficult to design and interpret. One reason for this is that the drivers of species distributions can vary a lot across scales, and another is that dispersal limitation can affect model precision and possibly accuracy. In the new paper, I outline ways of dealing with these problems, using models of native and exotic species distributions and richness across scales. Modeling across scales was important in devising the most appropriate conservation strategies – modeling at a single scale could have given misleading results. Until the paper comes out (which should be any time), please email me for a copy! j.bennett5[at]uq.edu.au
